The Big 5 Saudi Impact Awards have been created to inspire Saudi Arabia’s construction industry to achieve new goals, recognise the communities of the future and promote transformation for economic growth.

Categories explore the businesses creating the smart communities of the future, how we use technology and digitalisation to enable more sustainable construction practices, as well as honouring inclusion and diversity, partnerships, individual leadership and young construction professionals. The judges will be looking for a stand-out female that has displayed significant knowledge, confidence and expertise in overcoming the real and apparent obstacles of working within the male-dominated construction industry. Judges will be looking for an individual who has broken down barriers to forge a successful career within this competitive industry, pioneering the way and inspiring future generations of women working in construction.

To be eligible, candidates must:

  • Be employed by the company nominating them,
  • Be in a construction role, and
  • Be nominated by their employer

They are looking for the person that best demonstrates a positive impact on their peers, their organisation and will have shown potential to become an exemplary future leader, evidenced by having the ability to positively impact the behaviour of others.

This award is open to professionals (in-house) who may or may not have sustainability as part of their formal job description. The award will honour an individual who can show commitment, innovation, inspiration and measurable impact for sustainability in their organisation.

The Sustainable Initiative of the Year award will go to the single initiative demonstrating successful implementation, showing clear measurements of success, collaboration and outcomes – including Environmental, Social and Governance ESG principles – in its work. Evidence should focus on the period, January 2019 - April 2021.

This award honours an organisation which has implemented an initiative to educate students about the opportunities of a career in the construction industry, promoting the advancement of Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths (STEM). The initiative could be a partnership with an academic institution, an event, workshop, hackathon, internship or outreach programme.

3) Collaboration – 15%

  • Collaborations and partnerships with public or private sector groups

4) Impact: (25%)

  • Demonstrating positive, measurable and sustainable outcomes from the programme.
  • What difference did the contribution make?
  • How widespread was the impact? d. How lasting was the impact?

This award will recognise innovative construction projects, products and solutions in Saudi Arabia that lead, change, transform and improve the construction process in a positive way. The winning entry must demonstrate measurements of success and team collaboration. The innovation could be a new process, technology, or creative idea which has been implemented from January 2019 - December 2021. Entries should focus on at least one example of specific innovation.

  • Innovation (25%) • Time Performance: Meeting time objectives for key milestones (15%)
  • Cost Performance: Meeting cost objectives for the project (15%)
  • Quality Performance: Meeting quality objectives for the project (15%)
  • HSE: Health, safety & environment of the project and (15%)
  • Client Satisfaction: Client’s overall satisfaction of the project and it’s alignment to the standards and practices tied towards the client’s goals and objectives. (15%)

This award will recognise the outstanding small to medium sized business of the year for evidence of a clear growth plan, demonstrating best practice in construction and organisationsal management, investment in developing its people, how the business is driving its vision and mission, innovation for the wider industry and best practice in client engagement and supply chain management.

This award recognises an organisation which has developed a diverse and inclusive workplace through initiatives, programmes, policies and practices which have directly enhanced the success and culture of the organisation.

This award will be given to the organisation or project teams (cross-company joint entries will be accepted) responsible for planning an innovative construction project with sustainable benefits to the community. The entry must demonstrate that they have gone over and above standards for the built environment and are planning to embed Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) principles into the project.

This award is open to a specific client digitalisation project. Entrants must demonstrate client and cross-team collaboration, how people were at the heart of the project, project objectives, results, successful use of data and reporting, and how any challenges were overcome. The entry must give evidence on how digitalisation improved the construction project processes and operating model.

The Best Use of Technology award is open to organisations (non-technology providers) who can show how they have used technology to improve processes and efficiency, while engaging teams and/or clients in technology. Organisations should provide evidence of how the business case for the technology was developed, data driven decision making, specific innovations, improvements in business and/or project performance, competitive advantage, benefits and any potential to disrupt the wider industry.

This award will be given to an organisation demonstrating how it has embedded sustainability – including Environmental, Social and Governance ESG principles – into its business strategy. Examples may include success stories of employee and stakeholder engagement, competitor advantage, support of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and include evidence of quantifiable environmental impact, support for climate change mitigation, low- and zero-carbon initiatives and positive social impact. Evidence should focus on the period January 2019 - December 2021.
